New Zenterio OS based products successfully launched by RiksTV in Norway

Posted On: 9th December 2014

RiksTV in Norway has released two new digital hybrid set-top boxes for the Norwegian retail market, one standard box and one with PVR functionality. The set-top boxes, manufactured by Strong, use Zenterio OS as the operating system to deliver several new advanced services and applications to RiksTV’s customers. The products also feature a powerful graphical user interface based on Zenterio Navigator and a browser based media portal.

In addition to regular broadcasting services, the products come pre-integrated with several OTT applications. As one of the first Nordic pay-TV operators, RiksTV now offers YouTube as an integral part of their service offering, allowing viewers to access all the video content available on YouTube directly in their TV.  At launch the products also offer the movie rental portal SF Anytime. The TV2 SUMO application is expected to follow shortly which will allow the user to watch, on demand, the backlog of the last 8 days of broadcasted content from TV2.

Several other applications are in the pipeline, among them Beat, a streaming based music service similar to Spotify, and VGTV which is an on demand service for news and entertainment clips.

This is an advanced product that is well positioned in the market with respect to functionality and performance, and it is a very important reference project for Zenterio. The performance of the product and the smart way OTT services such as YouTube has been integrated into the total service offering, places this product in the absolute forefront of the market and provides a good example of how pay-TV operators can leverage well known third party OTT services to strengthen its existing offering.”  says Jens Gabrielsson, VP Sales at Zenterio.
